The Johansen Dataset

The Johansen formation is a candidate site for large-scale CO2 storage offshore the south-west coast of Norway. As part of the MatMoRA project, we have developed a geological model based on available seismic and well data. By publishing this model online, we seek to provide different modeling groups with a real data set that can be used for comparisons and to calibrate and understand the workings of different computational tools.

Note: This dataset represents a model of the Johansen formation that was developed as part of the MatMoRA strategic research project (2007-2011), funded by the Climit programme at the Research Council of Norway and in part by Norsk Hydro, Statoil (now Equinor) and Shell. The dataset is not directly related to the more recent, industrial Northern Lights CCS project, although the target geological formation is the same. The original intent of developing and publishing the data online was to provide different modeling groups with a real data set that could be used for comparisons and to calibrate and understand the workings of different computational tools.
